In Kajiado County, Kenya, Indigenous children, women, and youth in pastoral rural communities face severe educational and socio-economic challenges that perpetuate poverty and inequality. The Community-Based Education Project is dedicated to addressing these issues through a comprehensive approach. Our initiative focuses on strengthening literacy and numeracy skills with the Teaching at the Right Level (TARL) program, which is crucial for bridging the gap in foundational skills and promoting academic success. We emphasize Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) by establishing and supporting low-cost, community-owned centers for children aged 0-6 years, recognizing that quality early childhood education is essential for lifelong learning and future success. Community Learning Centers (CLCs) are in progress to deliver essential educational and developmental support. These centers will be outfitted with the necessary learning materials to ensure the effective delivery of programs, thereby enhancing the community’s educational infrastructure and addressing both early and ongoing learning gaps. Additionally, we aim to improve school administration, re-engage school dropouts, increase parental involvement in education, and empower women and girls within the community. By addressing these key areas, we strive to create resilient, empowered communities capable of overcoming educational barriers and achieving sustainable development.
