In the pastoral communities of Kajiado County, access to quality education remains one of the biggest barriers to breaking cycles of poverty. Children—especially girls—face obstacles like long distances to school, early marriage, and a lack of learning materials. At Patinaai Osim, we believe education is a right, not a privilege. Our education program builds strong foundations through early childhood development, literacy support, and community-based learning models.
We run the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) model to close learning gaps in literacy and numeracy for Grades 3 to 5. We also support Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) through low-cost, community-run centers for children aged 0 to 6. We’re currently developing Community Learning Centers (CLCs)—safe hubs that will offer access to books, mentorship, adult education, and remedial classes for out-of-school learners. At the heart of our work is parental engagement, because we believe learning continues beyond the classroom. Our goal is simple: to make sure every child in our community has a chance to learn, grow, and succeed.

Establishing and supporting community-owned ECCDE centers for children aged 4–6 years to promote holistic development in early learning.

Using the Teaching at the Right Level program and level-based learning methods to close foundational gaps in literacy and numeracy for learners in Grade 3 to Grade 5.

Encouraging deeper parental involvement in education to support student learning and development both at school and at home.

Reintegrating out-of-school children by providing support and scholarships to help them return and remain in school.

Developing safe, accessible hubs where learners of all ages can access educational resources, mentorship, and continued learning support.
Patinaai Osim is what Maasai women call someone who brings them joy. That’s what we aim to be for our communities.
